Nouveau Riche

By Darren On October 21, 2008 Under General

Becoming rich is something that we all dream of, yet there are people throughout the world who aren’t dreaming and are becoming ‘nouveau riche‘.  The term, nouveau riche is French for new rich, in other words, they have acquired their wealth within their own lifetime.

Becoming a billionaire can start with a single coin, it is how that coin is used that creates unimaginable wealth.

Examples of well-known people who have become ‘nouveau riche’ are displayed below:

  1. Sir Alan Sugar – Born in 1947 has an estimated fortune of £830million (US$1.66billion).  His wealth was created through his (recently sold) Amstrad electronics company, his large property portfolio and The Apprentice television series.
  2. J.K.Rowling – Born in 1965 is currently worth approximately £560million (US$1.1billion).  She created her wealth through the Harry Potter series of books, movies and merchandise all within a period of five years.
  3. Gordon Ramsay – Born in 1966 made his fortune as a chef, restaurateur and television personality.  His estimated net worth currently stands at £60million.

The three people are just a small selection of people I know have created their own wealth on their own merits and are hard-working as deservant of their money.  Without working hard, achieving this kind of money can only be a distant dream.  Any idea, no matter how small, could make you nouveau riche and could net you mass millions.

I think it depends on how they made their fortune – some may disagree with Larry Flint, or blood diamond traders???

Not that Gordon ramsay hasn’t hurt a few people in his climb to the top, but surely shatered egos don’t count! But i don’t think Gordon Ramsay seriosuly hurt anyone getting to the top and judging by his shows like the UK version of ramsay’s kitchen nightmares – he spends a lot more time helping people (while making a profit!)
