The Benefits of Guest Posting and How they Work

One of my goals for 2009 was to get a guest post featured on another website each month.  That would mean me writing one extra post each month, which I could send to another blog owner for them to feature on their own blog.

Blog Owners

As a blog owner, I would appreciate people sending me posts as they can be used to fill-in days when I am unable to post – or struggling to think of something to write about.  This relief of pressure can be beneficial, especially to bloggers such as myself who also hold down a full-time job.

Guest Posters

Once the post has been approved by the blog owner, this is when the benefits start for the poster.

Along with your post, most blog owners allow a small ‘brought to you by’ piece which describes who you are and where you generally post.  This is where the benefit lies.  If you can get your blog post published on a high-traffic blog, you are exposing your writing to a greater number of people who would then potentially view your blog and become regular readers.

Examples

In the introduction I mentioned that one of my goals for 2009 was to get a guest-post published each month.  During January, my post “Contests go hand-in-hand with Blogging” was published on Infected by Bugs and discussed how Shannon, the blogs owner, was successfully using a contest to increase his subscriber numbers.
