Professional Layout

By Darren On January 5, 2009 2 Comments

During 2009, one of my goals is to make Darren Singleton.com much more professional-looking.  The previous theme contained a vast amount of advertisements, which brought in very little income and may have put people off visiting the website.

If you are reading this post via the RSS feed, I urge you to take a look at the improved design, which is using the free WordPress theme Grey Matter by Nikolaj Masnikov.  I will be modifying the theme over time, but for now I feel that it gives the blog a much better look.

At the top left of the blog – you may have noticed the new tagline : “Blogger – Webmaster – Internet Entrepreneur”.  I also feel that this is a huge improvement over “Just one man with a blog” which no longer seemed relevant in relation to my goals for 2009.

I have planned a series of follow-up posts that will document some further changes I have made to the blog, including why I have chosen to keep certain advertisements over others.

Layout Changes

Returning visitors will notice that once again I have changed the websites theme.  I felt that the Arthemia theme I was using was overly complex for this blog and something much more simple was required.

The theme I am using at the moment is called Revolution and was produced by the amazingly talented WordPress theme designer Brian Gardner.

I have made some minor modifications so far and I have many more on the way.  The first thing that you should notice is that I am offering readers to follow the blog posts via FeedBurner and have included a box to the sidebar which will allow you to subscribe via email, rather than the conventional method of adding my RSS feed to your preferred reader.

When you visit a post page, you will also see that there are social bookmarking icons for some of the most popular sites and I encourage you to submit any of my posts that you find interesting or helpful to the services, as a way of supporting the site.

I promised a series of posts regarding WordPress plugins I while back and they are still in development.  With the new theme, I have been testing out some new plugins.  It may take a little while longer than I originally thought.
