1000 Tweets

By Darren On November 17, 2009 2 Comments

Yesterday, I posted my 1000th Tweet.  Since signing up to Twitter, I had posted an average of 3.7 tweets per day of which majority have been made on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  Below, I have posted an updated version of my Twitter Word Cloud which still heavily features ‘blog’, ‘updated’, ‘twitter’ and ‘rt’ though this content is becoming much more diverse as time goes on.

To mark my 1000th Tweet, I used TwitRand to generate one of my followers at random.  If you are running a contest or giveaway on Twitter, this is HIGHLY recommended.  I will be sure to post a complete review of the service later this week!  The lucky follower to get picked out was @gamebrit who promptly received £15 GBP from myself as a thank you.  I hope to perform more giveaways in the future using Twitter, so be sure to follow me and make sure that you keep a look out for contests in my Twitter feed in the near future.

Twitter Statistics – Twitalyzer

By Darren On March 26, 2009 No Comments

Twitter has quickly become a leading service for online marketers, celebrities and now even the general public.  Offline mediums such as television and newspapers are commenting on how fast Twitter is growing and many people are looking into the future as to how Twitter is going to evolve and monetise.

One of the things that interests me is statistics.  Whether it’s my Google Analytics, or my number of subscribers – I will be the first to admit that I check them too often!

Say hello to twitalyzer – the newest way to track your influence and success on Twitter.  By entering your Twitter username on the homepage you are instantly given statistics regarding each of the following details:

  • Influence – Your overall score as determined by twitalyzer.
  • Signal – The amount of information you ‘pass-on’ rather than create.
  • Generosity – The amount of content that you ‘retweet’.
  • Velocity – The rate at which you contribute to Twitter.
  • Clout – The number of references you receive from other Twitter users.

Each of the above terms is explained in greater detail on the twitalyzer website.  Below is a copy of my current statistics overview:

The data reported above was collected by the Twitalyzer on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 2:16:21 PM. When the analysis was conducted, @darrensingleton had 105 followers, 66 friends, and had published 40 updates over the previous seven days.

Influence: 0.6
Signal: 77.5%
Generosity: 15.0%
Velocity: 5.3%
Clout: 0.9%

Following your simple statistics, you can the drill down and find out how you compare with all of the other Twitter users that are tracked by twitalyzer.  The service is currently only tracking 30,043 Twitter accounts, but you can help out by visiting the website and entering your own username or by taking a look at the twitalyzer turk, where you can help build their database of users.

I’d recommend taking a look at twitalyzer and seeing how you compare with their top 100 list.  If you aren’t a member of Twitter yet, you should be.  Why not start by following me, post a comment on this blog with your Twitter username and I will follow you back.

Do you know of any other Twitter statistics tools?  Can you suggest ways of increasing my followers?  Let me know in the comments, or send me a message on Twitter.

Twitter Word Cloud

By Darren On January 12, 2009 1 Comment

PLEASE NOTE: I have posted an updated version of my Twitter word cloud that can be seen over here.

wordle

The image to the left shows the most commonly used words on my Twitter feed.  It seems overly dominated by the words ‘blog’, ‘updated’ and ‘twitter’.  I should have guessed that this would be the case, as my Twitter feed is automatically updated when I post to my blog using Tweet My Blog!

My goal is to send more Tweets on a daily basis relating to blogging and things I am attempting in order to bring more traffic to this blog.

The above image was generated using a combination of Tweet Stats and Wordle.  Feel free to follow me on Twitter to keep updated with these items as they happen.

I will re-address my Twitter Word Cloud in a months time to see how it has changed.

Twitter Phishing Scam

By Darren On January 4, 2009 No Comments

Be very careful of any direct messages (DM’s) you receive on Twitter in the near future.  There is talk among bloggers and Twitter users of a mass phishing scam attempting to gain access to your Twitter account by sending you a phony link via DM which will prompt you to login to your Twitter account.

If you take note of the URL you are being directed to, it will be along the lines of twitter.access-logins.com or a suspicious blogspot domain.  Be sure to either login purely from the main Twitter website (http://www.twitter.com), or for 3rd-party applications and services, try and ensure that it is safe to do so and they won’t use your account details for anything suspicious.

Hopefully Twitter will get these scammers shut down shortly, but in the mean time take care.

Tweet of the Week

By Darren On December 15, 2008 2 Comments

First of all, I’m not dead (not that anybody has been asking).  Secondly, I had the idea for doing a ‘Tweet of the Week’ where I pick a Tweet that I have received during the week and post it for all to see.  I know I will only receive Tweets from people I am following, so I’m not sure how to make this entirely fair.  I like to keep track of everybody I am following, much like I would with my RSS feeds.  We will have to see.

The first ‘Tweet of the Week’ would be from DarthVader:

If you wish to see one of your Tweet’s displayed on here, your best chance is to begin to follow me, if your Tweets look of interest to me then I’ll gladly reciprocate.
