Stats for Week One

By Darren On July 3, 2008 5 COMMENTs

I began posting on this blog on the 26th June (last Thursday) and have made 12 posts so far, within 7 categories and 34 tags.  In this week the site has received a total of 148 hits, 58 of which were unique.

These statistics are very low, but I am happy with them, for now.  Although I have been posting much more regularly than on my (now non-updated) ’1 Man’ blog, I haven’t done all that much in the form of promotion.  I have discussed using directories and Entrecard as means of generating traffic but haven’t used them to their full potential myself.

There is one place in particular I want to mention, who at the moment has brought more visitors to my site than any other and that is the Nicusor Do Follow List.  Thanks. If you own a do-follow-list of your own, either let me know, or feel free to add my blog to it.

Checking FeedBurner, I also have two people currently subscribed to my feed.  I’m quite happy about that, as I haven’t actually gone ahead and subscribed myself (as I’m sure many people have in the past).

Please don’t forget the small Entrecard contest I have going, drop your card to win – it’s that simple.  Full details can be found here.

Analytics Software

By Darren On June 30, 2008 NO COMMENTS

Well, I gave in and got myself a mint. I have upgraded my analytics software and I am now running Mint, created by Shaun Inman.

I have attached a basic screengrab of how it is currently looking. Quite poor if you ask me, but I am looking at performing some major traffic generation over the next week and I will be keeping you informed of how my traffic levels are looking and what I have done in order to achieve the results.

Installing Mint, although costing $30, will give me a much better understanding of this websites visitors and I will also discuss the Peppers that I install and make my experience with Mint that much more satisfying.

Site Analytics

By Darren On June 27, 2008 NO COMMENTS

Having received a great link back from Gyutae on his website regarding  my previous post, it suddenly dawned on me that I don’t currently have any analytics software configured to track my visitor numbers on this website.

Looking through my options I have decided to go with Google Analytics. It is simple to see what data I need and I am used to the layout, having used it on various other websites.

There was one other major contender for use on this site, Mint.  I currently use Mint on one other website and the statistics it provides are extremely useful and presented in a way that just makes sense.  There are two things I really like, the first being the expandability of Mint, people are actively encouraged to use the API and develop their own peppers (plug-ins) for others to use.  The other feature is that everything is displayed on one page and any navigation is performed via AJAX so you never actually leave the first screen.

As this website is in its infancy and I am trying my best not to spend any money, I’m shying away from the $30 price tag that comes with it.  Although, give me a few weeks and I’ll probably go ahead and give it a whirl on here.
