Focus
Since returning from holiday on the 16th of May my focus on my online ventures has been all over the place. I haven’t been updating any of my various blogs/websites and I have been sporadically checking Twitter and interacting with a couple of people via email.
Since starting this blog on June 26th 2008, I have been losing and regaining focus on this and my other projects all of the time. My commitment has been awful and I really want to start making something of the time I have been spending online trying to build my reputation.
Blog Statistics
As this blog is approaching it’s two year birthday I am looking back at what has been achieved.
- 105 Posts
- 7,090 Visits
- 15,185 Pageviews
- 00:02:08 Avg. Time on Site
Looking at the stats above I am very disappointed in myself. It is obvious that the last two years haven’t shown an ounce of success for me in blogging.
Time for Focus
If I am going to succeed in blogging, I need to set my mind on a particular task. Have clearly defined goals in mind and work towards them at full force. On the anniversary of DarrenSingleton.com (June 26th), a new blog will be launched – 365 Days of Blogging. I am giving myself a full year to develop a blog and achieve much more than this blog has ever done.

The updates won’t be as sporadic, aiming for a minimum of four new posts a week. Leading up to the start date I will be preparing the blog template and getting content prepared for the launch.
This is a personal project, but I will need your help. If anybody would be willing to Tweet out to their followers or post a blog post about this project it would be greatly appreciated and I’m sure we could work out some form of compensation.
The End
By Wednesday 25th May 2011 I am hoping to have a mildly successful blog that puts the above statistics to shame. I will ensure that the first post on 365daysofblogging.com outlines these goals in more detail and I will also update here as a reminder of the project starting.
Thanks for your support here on DarrenSingleton.com – this isn’t the end of this blog, just the start of something new and exciting for me.
Twitter Statistics – Twitalyzer
Twitter has quickly become a leading service for online marketers, celebrities and now even the general public. Offline mediums such as television and newspapers are commenting on how fast Twitter is growing and many people are looking into the future as to how Twitter is going to evolve and monetise.
One of the things that interests me is statistics. Whether it’s my Google Analytics, or my number of subscribers – I will be the first to admit that I check them too often!
Say hello to twitalyzer – the newest way to track your influence and success on Twitter. By entering your Twitter username on the homepage you are instantly given statistics regarding each of the following details:
- Influence – Your overall score as determined by twitalyzer.
- Signal – The amount of information you ‘pass-on’ rather than create.
- Generosity – The amount of content that you ‘retweet’.
- Velocity – The rate at which you contribute to Twitter.
- Clout – The number of references you receive from other Twitter users.
Each of the above terms is explained in greater detail on the twitalyzer website. Below is a copy of my current statistics overview:
The data reported above was collected by the Twitalyzer on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 2:16:21 PM. When the analysis was conducted, @darrensingleton had 105 followers, 66 friends, and had published 40 updates over the previous seven days.
Influence: 0.6
Signal: 77.5%
Generosity: 15.0%
Velocity: 5.3%
Clout: 0.9%
Following your simple statistics, you can the drill down and find out how you compare with all of the other Twitter users that are tracked by twitalyzer. The service is currently only tracking 30,043 Twitter accounts, but you can help out by visiting the website and entering your own username or by taking a look at the twitalyzer turk, where you can help build their database of users.
I’d recommend taking a look at twitalyzer and seeing how you compare with their top 100 list. If you aren’t a member of Twitter yet, you should be. Why not start by following me, post a comment on this blog with your Twitter username and I will follow you back.
Do you know of any other Twitter statistics tools? Can you suggest ways of increasing my followers? Let me know in the comments, or send me a message on Twitter.
October 2008 Results
Looking back on September’s review, I can see that I was fairly negative towards this blog and the results I was getting. This is because September brought in just 317 hits with 158 unique visitors. October has been slightly better with 172 unique visitors viewing a total of 502 pages. That’s 2.92 pages per visitor.
Again, it seems to be the do-follow community that is bringing the most traffic to my site with Nicusor Do-Follow List and Tucsan SEO Solutions Do-Follow Internet Marketing Blogs.
Having signed up for Twitter this month, I have begun posting there and currently have 7 followers on Twitter, along with 11 RSS Subscribers, so hello to you guys! Over the month my site has stayed at a Google PageRank of 2 and an Alexa ranking of 376,417 has now been achieved. Although this is an improvement, I am beginning to see a diminishing importance of PageRank throughout the blogging community with many people no longer focusing on their rankings in this way.
I started off my series of posts regarding WordPress plugins and I intend to carry this on. If you feel you know of a plugin that is worth a mention then let me know in the comments.
End of September Update
The whole idea of this blog was to promote myself online and in the process learn for myself the best methods of generating traffic for blogs. Looking at my site stats for the last two months, I am not achieving my goal. I know this is down to the lack of new content and my seeming inability to focus on just one project at a time.
July brought in 504 hits, 226 of which were unique.
August brought in 666 hits, 276 of which were unique.
September brought in just 317 hits with just 158 being unique visitors.
As you can see from the stats above, the number of visitors has dropped quite considerably and I attribute this to my lack of participation within the community and also my lack of motivation to post. Along with the lack of visitors, this has had a negative effect on the sites income – which was minimal to start with, I hope to be able to attract some new advertisers in the near future.
I started with some negative points about this website, but I also have some good news. With the latest Google Page Rank update, Darren Singleton is now a page rank 2!! Yes, the site had jumped a full two ranks! There is also an Alexa ranking of 414,573 which looks much better than before.

July 2008 Review
Well, I’m now back from my holidays and ready to get back to work on both this website, and my many others that are currently in development. First of all I would like to update everybody on the websites statistics for the month of July:
504 visits, 226 of which were unique and my top three referrers are the Nicusor Do-Follow List, Tucson SEO Do-Follow List and Entrecard.
I am not currently tracking how much money the blog is making each month as it is not a major priority. Until the blogs traffic increases the adverts will remain on the blog un-tracked. On the note of advertisements, I have added two 125×125 button advertisements to the side-bar, these are powered by Performancing Ads and you can display your website for as little as $1 per week!
That is all for today, I know it is short but I have a lot to do! I am planning a detailed report regarding Performancing Ads later this week along with a full update of my Mint statistics along with a list of the Peppers I find useful.
