A New Computer
Over the past several weeks, I have been neglected my blogging efforts and I feel badly for it. Outside of blogging, a couple of nice things have happened.
First of all I received a check from Google for an AdSense payment. The payout threshold is $100 and my check arrived last week. This money isn’t entirely from blogging and the money has been building up in my account for quite a long time, but getting a payout was quite an exciting moment.
The second thing that happened is buying myself a new PC. I thought it would be good to list the specification below for all to see:
- AMD PHENOM™ X4 9650 (2.3GHz) 4 x 512K L2 Cache (Socket AM2+)
- 4GB CORSAIR XMS2 800MHz (2x2GB)
- ASUS® M3N78-SE: DUAL DDR2, S-ATA II, PCIe x16, 2 x PCIe x1, 3 x PCI
- HDD #1 – 640GB SERIAL ATA II HARD DRIVE WITH 16MB CACHE (7,200rpm)
- HDD #2 – 1000GB SERIAL ATA II HARD DRIVE WITH 32MB CACHE (7,200rpm)
- CD/DVD #1 – 6x BLU-RAY ROM & HD-DVD ROM DRIVE, 16x DVD ±R/±RW
- CD/DVD #2 – 22x DUAL LAYER LIGHTSCRIBE DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM
- 512MB GEFORCE 9400GT PCI Express + DVI + TV-OUT
- INTERNAL 52 IN 1 CARD READER (READS XD, MS, CF, SD, etc)
- 450W Quiet Dual Rail PSU + 120mm Case Fan
- SUPER QUIET 22dBA TRIPLE COPPER HEATPIPE CPU COOLER
I purchased the computer from a web-based company called PC Specialist. Although the machine took over a week longer to arrive than originally estimated, I cannot complain about their customer service or the quality of the build at all.
The machine is running amazingly well and I am using Windows 7 as my operating system. I haven’t owned a computer running Vista, so the change from Windows XP is quite different. So far I am enjoying the experience and appreciate all of the extra features here and there.
One of my major downfalls is my lack of organisation. This hinders me in both time management (getting somewhere on time) and in actually prioritising jobs and tasks. Utilising my new PC and a series of software tools (including Evernote) I hope to accomplish more with the time I have available and utilise my time much more efficiently.
I would love to hear about what computer systems my readers use and would love to hear your comments about time management and how you cope.

Cheers for the comment Adam. Just a quick note, a URL doesn’t contain the @ symbol, only email addresses do! I updated your link for you

I’m not a huge fan of vista, I’m an XP guy like you and I’m fairly afraid of the switch. See, the problem with me making a switch is that I get pretty set in my ways and if I switch to Vista I feel like I’m going to be lost. Sure it isn’t a huge change or anything like that, it’s just that I’m old school (even though I’m not that old?) and it’s hard for me to change.
In my opinion my XP is doing just fine – and keeping me on task.

Wow, you got a nice PC. By the way, congrats on your adsense earnings. I am sure the check felt good in your hands
I have Vista on my PC and so far so good. The switch wasn’t smooth either. I guess it took me two weeks to get myself comfortable with it.

That is one nice computer, I need a new one bad at the moment.
I was on Vista for a year and when a reinstall was needed I went straight back to XP, Vista had way too many annoying things they call features. I dont know why they cant leave the add ons to us with third party programs.

Its great that you got a new computer and seems like a very good one from the specs that you mentioned. I still remember waiting for my first Adsense check. I also have been using vista for a little more than a month on my new HP 540 laptop that I bought last month and now I have become so used to Windows Vista that I don’t feel like using XP anymore.

That’s a good Spec machine you have bought, how did you manage to get a copy of windows 7 for running on your machine. I tried to download a beta copy but missed the boat. I had Vista on my machine but took it off as I just couldn’t get to grips with it. My time management isn’t particularly good its something I always try to improve but without much luck.

For a period of time you were able to download Windows 7 directly from the Microsoft website. I would keep an eye on websites such as Windows 7 News to find out if Microsoft are to offer it for download again.
